This website is dedicated to presenting those organisms present in wastewater treatment with special emphasis on the filamentous bacteria.

The main purpose of this website is to provide free information that is normally presented in a workshop, manual, or through other specialized training and at cost. The main emphasis is to provide "free" information through a visual as well as narrative means. The Internet provides a welcomed format as well as a challange.

Several groups of wastewater organisms are presented: Protozoans, Metazoans, and the filamentous bacteria. The higher level organisms are discussed in terms of morphology and how to identify them and their overall niche in the wastewater cycle. Filamentous bacteria are presented and how to identify them when conducting a microscopic examination (with the aid of a phase contrast microscope).

The limited database being presented in this website represents about 10% of the full version of the wastewater organisms database. This is done for many reasons:

1. Prevent unathorized use of copyrighted material

2. Prevent persons from benefitting monetarily from someone else's work

3. The purchase of the database allows updating, integrating of new material, as well as software and hardware modifications.

Photographs, Video, Narrative:

The photographs inherent to the database are a digital compendium that were initially taken using a 35 mm single lens reflex (SLR) camera integrated into the phase contrast microscope. After years of accumulating strips of negatives it was decided that it was too cumbersome attempting to find what was needed at any particular time that over the course of many after-midnight jobs, a specific number of negatives where scanned and digitized. Videos were also consolidated into the portable digital format (PDF). The majority of the database was constructed by one individual with minor contributions by Agusti Bosch, Dr. Jared Fein, Dave Walker, and Liz Millan and to whom I am gratefully acknowledging their time and friendship.
