Wastewater Protozoans
This webpage was created to introduce the protozoans encountered in wastewater such as flagellates, ciliates, and amoebas. The basic definition of a protozoan is, in simple terms, more complex than a single celled bacterium, but not complex enough as a metazoan. Protozoans are single celled Eukaryotic organisms that are classified by their means of locomotion whether it be via a flagella or cilia. So you ask, how does an amoeba get to be a protozoan when by looking at it moves by pseudopods. Well, there are some species of amoebas that have a flagellated stage. As a matter of fact, amoebas where classified into the Sarcomastigophora Phylum.
The naked and testate amoebas are presented in this section of the protozoans.

Flagellates
The flagellates are presented in this section of the protozoans

Stalked Ciliates
The stalked ciliates are presented in this section of the protozoans
