Wastewater Metazoans
This webpage was created to introduce the protozoans encountered in wastewater such as rotifers, water bears, gastrotrichs, and nematodes.
The rotifers encompasses of group of metazoans present in wastewater typically found in high SRT conditions.
The water bears are not as cute as you think they are. They are killing machines that suck up the juices of its victims by lancing them with a syringe-like apparatus called a stylet.
The gastrotrichs are an unusual group in that they have morphological features common to rotifers and nematodes. They are typically found when wastewater treatment plants are started. These conditions resemble low SRT, high F/M situations.
