The purpose of this report is to present the physical characteristics of a filamentous bacteria that is present in wastewater. Filament 0041 has a width between 1.4-1.6 µm and the length of the trichome can be as long as 100-500 µm. The shape of the cells is square with heavy attached growth being common. 0041 stains Gram variable and Neisser negative. When an organisms stains Gram variable it means that parts of the organism will stain positive while other parts will stain negative. For filament 0041 certain portions of the filament will stain positive. These parts may include the cell septa dividing individual cells. 0041 is normally found within the floc but
under certain situations it will extend out into the bulk solution. In Industrial wastewater systems, 0041 will protrude from the floc and look slightly different than the physical properties it presents within the floc. When 0041 juts out of the floc, the filament itself normally has heavy attached growth with some filament areas devoid of any attached growth. 0041 has a clear sheath that is normally visible when it is devoid of cells.
